It’s November 1st and Christmas is on the loose. We know it’s early for some people but lining up your holiday connections with your kiddos might take some time. Therefore, we happily present to you the Christmas Build-A-Minifigure choices for 2023!
If you’re unfamiliar with the concept of the Build-A-Minifigure, or BAM, Station, it is a small kiosk in the middle of any Lego Store you walk into that lets you build your own Lego person. There are a variety of legs, torsos, heads, hat/hair pieces, and items (i.e. cameras, swords, or pitchforks).
At certain times of the year themed pieces start to appear. For instance, at Halloween there were jack’o’lantern heads and witches hats as well as other items. The same thing happens at Christmastime so I went as soon as I could today to see what I could find.
This year there are pieces to make Santa Claus. Now there are plenty of versions of St. Nick in Lego form but this version is in dark red and that has us Brickgeeks excited. It will fit nicely in any Christmas display you might have. There are also items for a winter sports character, a nicely dressed woman baking, a busker/ex-con (you never know where those guys are gonna pop up), and, I kid you not, a person wearing an acorn for a hat!
I love to have these kinds of oddities around for dioramas. Lego scenes can be both wonderfully detailed and enjoyably silly. For my “Christmas with Easter Eggs” display that I show at conventions I set up all my Christmas buildings along with minifigures from many franchises. Star Wars Snowtroopers are playing ice hockey against Hoth Rebel troopers. Several characters are trying to build snowmen but The Hulk has crushed his into a pile of snow out of frustration. Both ideas came from my kids. Currently, we’re creating a “Christmas on the Falcon” scene where I plan to use the new minifigs from today.
If you’re struggling to come up with an idea to work on together, just start playing with your child and see what they come up with. The sillier the better.
At the Build-A-Minifig station, you make three minifigs for $10. All in all, it’s a good deal for everything you get. If you’re wondering where to find the nearest Lego Store, visit their site here: https://www.lego.com/en-us/stores.
