Great Christmas Movies & Shows for Younger Kids

We truly enjoy Christmas and it was important to us that we trained our children up in the love of Christmas too! One way we did that was through enjoying movies with them. If we are honest, we enjoy these shows and movies just about as much as them. We still watch them even though our kids are all older. Ha!

Here is our go to list for younger kids!

  • Polar Express
  • Emmet Otter’s Job Band Christmas
  • Phineas & Ferb Christmas
  • Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (claymation)
  • Santa Claus is Coming to Town (claymation)
  • Frosty  the Snowman
  • Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas
  • A Charlie Brown Christmas
  • Arthur Christmas
  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas (animated)
  • The Star
  • Mickey’s Christmas Carol
  • Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas and Twice Upon a Christmas
  • Santa Buddies
  • Wild Kratts Christmas
  • Barbie in the Nutcracker

My favorite is Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas. It is a rare one, but I remember watching it on HBO when I was a kid and the story is a version of the Gift of the Magi.

Polar Express is matched with the book. It is a great one to have a read aloud and then watch together making sure you have hot chocolate at the ready when the song “Hot Chocolate” comes on.

Barbie in the Nutcracker was one our girls watched over and over again with the added benefit of them learning beautiful classical music by Tchaikovsky. A fun way to introduce them to the storytelling of music.

Of course the classics of Rudolph, Charlie Brown, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town have been enjoyed for generations. As adults, you can giggle at some of the more traditional cultural norms in them and the somewhat ridiculous story lines. Your kids will find them magical as kids for decades have. You can’t go wrong with something that has stood the test of time.

Enjoying movies together as a family can create a fun bond especially if it becomes a tradition to look forward to together. Simple things like this can help build your family culture of togetherness and enjoyment.

We hope you enjoy these suggestions! Merry Christmas Season!
