Christmas in Spring happens every May 4th for Lego fans.  A day also known as Star Wars Day because we all need to hear someone greet us with, “May the 4th be with you.”

For years, Lego has taken advantage of this marketing opportunity to release great new sets, offer some gifts with purchase that get people out of their seats, double or quadruple Insider points, and offer sets at some of the best prices you’ll see all year.

Star Wars Day promotionals return May 1st for Insiders but anyone else will need to wait until May 3rd.  If you haven’t signed up for the Insider program yet, there’s no risk involved and you can earn points that give you discounts on your future purchases.

This year there will be a special livestream event on May 1st at www.lego.com from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT.  They will have special offers, interviews with Lego designers, and a chance to win the new Ultimate Collector Series TIE Interceptor!

This event draws a lot of interest in two promotional items.  First, Lego offers gifts for Insiders, free items for Insiders if they spend a minimum amount or use their Insider points.  Second, there are “gift with purchase” sets, or GWP, available with minimum purchases.

The gifts for Insiders available this year are a Battle of Yavin Collectable Coin with purchases of $90.  Also, they are offering a limited edition print by artist Joe Hogan for using 1,800 Insider points.  This is a poster with portraits of Star Wars characters in their Lego form.

The gifts with purchase this year are creating quite a stir.  For purchases of $40 or more, you’ll receive a microsale version of an AAT, a Trade Federation artillery unit.  It’s fun but no one’s getting worked up over it.  The other GWP is the Trade Federation Troop Carrier.  If you’ve ever tried to set up a battle scene, you know that you can never have too many troops.  This set has 8 battle droids which goes a long way to creating a more real feel in play.  It comes with purchases of $160 or more.

Last, May 1st is the release date for 3 sets that have been talked about in Lego circles for months.  The Ultimate Collector Series, or UCS, Droideka is an affordable $65 model of the superior battle droids introduced in Episode 1.  (Click HERE)

In the past two years Lego has released several dioramas of famous scenes.  This year’s edition features the Podrace at Mos Espa and almost looks like it is in motion.

The biggest offering of the year is the UCS TIE Interceptor.

If you’re wondering, just think of a fancy TIE fighter.  If you want to know more, just keep in mind that asking a Star Wars nerd or Googling your query might take you down a rabbit hole that you don’t want to leave.

Have a great Star Wars Day!  Look for opportunities to create memory making events with your kids.  Build some Lego.  Play with your sets.  Create a new droid.  Watch as many of the movies as you can.  It’s a perfect time to have fun!
