June 1st is a banner day for Lego every year and 2024 was no different. With over 100 sets released, it’s one of the biggest rollout days of the year. This is only a collection of some of my favorites.
The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr™
One of my favorite things to do with my children is introduce them to great stories like The Lord of the Rings. What better way to get them interested in reading the books besides building one of the most impressive Lego sets to date. With 5.471 pieces and over 32 inches tall it is one of the largest sets by two measurements. The Eye of Sauron is fully articulating, allowing you to intone “I see you.” in a deep voice whenever it is nearby. It also includes a palantir, throne room, dungeon, and gear-controlled gate. Of course, Frodo, Sam, and Gollum are included but the two most impressive minifigs are Sauron and the Mouth of Sauron. Also included are 4 orcs and 1 Uruk-hai.

Architecture: Notre-Dame de Paris
If you love models (apparently yes, this is a Lego blog) and buildings, the Lego Architecture series is a great way to introduce your passion and this is the biggest set available. The first brick of the iconic Notre-Dame de Paris was laid in 1163 and almost a millennium later we’re able to put this replica together much faster but with an outstanding amount of detail. The outside features the famous Rose Windows and familiar flying buttresses. The inside is accessible by a removable roof to reveal intricate appreciations of the world famous cathedral. This piece begs to be put on display.

Cats lovers unite. The tuxedo cat is a fun way to demonstrate your love for the cutest, cuddliest creatures of all. Lego has delivered a modifiable version of your favorite feline with multiple eyes and expressions. Best of all, it’s hypoallergenic.

If you haven’t heard, the popularity of chess has been on the rise for people of all ages. If you want to learn more click HERE. Chess clubs at schools are becoming more and more popular. That’s why your own buildable chess set will provide hours of bonding with her child. Fashioned in a traditional style, this set is appealing to the eye. Hogwarts Castle: The Great Hall
The first in a new line of Hogwarts Castle sets, The Great Hall is a crowd pleaser for any Potterhead. There’s loads of stories that can be played out as this is the traditional meeting place for the whole of the Hogwarts student body. The set gives us our first look at the Fat Friar as a minifigure and barging his way onto the scene is the first mountain troll from Lego. Also included are Harry, Ron, Hermione, Professors Dumbledore, Quirrell, and Vector, as well as 3 students.
$199.99 ~ 1732 pieces ~ 1300 IP
Triwizard Tournament: The Arrival
Okay, I’m a sucker for Lego ships so of course this is at the top of my list. The Durmstrang Ship resembles an old Spanish Galleon and even looks to have a Dragon head at the front. It’s completed with high-quality, fabric sails. The carriage from Beaux Batons is a beautiful reproduction with an abraxan (think large Pegasus) at the lead. Included are Igor Karkaroff, Viktor Krum, Madame Maxime, Fleur Delacour, and Barty Crouch, Sr.
$139.99 ~ 1229 pieces ~ 910 IP
The Legend of Zelda: The Great Deku Tree
I’m the last person to tell you anything about Zelda but the long-running video game series has woven its way into culture. If you’re a fan, this is a great way to get your kids involved and pass down your passion. Unique to this large build is that it is a 2-in-1, meaning that there are a couple of ways to build it. With it come 3 versions of Link; original, Young Link, and the version from Breath of the Wild, as well as Princess Zelda herself.
$299.99 ~ 2500 pieces ~ 1950 IP
Harry Potter: Ollivanders™ & Madam Malkin’s Robes
Another chance to expand your child’s, and your own, imagination into the world of Harry Potter is this set featuring two iconic places from Diagon Alley. Garrick Ollivander’s wand shop has 26 wands to choose from for the perusing minifig. The robe store comes with multiple clothing options and mannequins to display them on. As (almost) always, you’ll get Harry along with Garrick Ollivander, Madame Malkin, Padma Patil, a witch, and a Hogwarts student in a wheelchair.

Marvel: Guardians of the Galaxy: The Milano
You ready for a bunch of losers? Everyone’s favorite interstellar protectors are back in this model of their ship fit for display. The level of detail is amazing! Although it’s not designed for play, the build experience and presence of this piece is worth it. Included are Starlord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Baby Groot.
